‘I am a Broke Old Man’ – Obasanjo Reveals in Rare Facebook Chat – VIDEO

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said he is now a “broke old man” as he continues to come to terms with retirement from political life.

Obasanjo, who has had the rare distinction of leading the country twice following his stint as military Head of State from 1976 to 1979, says most old men are broke and he’s no exception.

In a rare Live Facebook chat with young Nigerians during a visit to the United Kingdom, Obasanjo, whose sense of humour remains intact, also admitted that he has no problem handing over his Ota Farms to the youth providing they can cope with the hassles of the banks.

The 79-year-old, straight-shooting elder statesman also touched on other issues including his culinary tastes and the rapidly changing world.

Unsurprisingly, he confessed to not being a ‘digital man’ a fact that was evident in his continued use of an older model Nokia phone, and though he had reservations about having a Nigerian meal abroad, he says the lure of Pounded yam and Egusi soup may prove too strong for him.

When asked for his opinion on the UK’s surprise decision to exit the European Union, Obasanjo typically dismissed it as “their problem”, adding that we “have our problems back home.”

Baba soon switched moods, telling his host to get back to work as they were there for work, before reluctantly saying goodbye to Nigerians whom he couldn’t see.

How sorely we’ve missed him on the political scene.
