There was pandemonium at Bukuru area of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State on Sunday when a group of gunmen opened fire at a group of Muslim worshippers in the area and injured three persons.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred around 9pm when the Muslims were observing the Tarawi prayers, just immediately after breaking their fast.

The Secretary, Bukuru Elders Committee, Bala Mohammed, confirmed the incident.

Mohammed expressed anger that the attack had become a recurring decimal.

“Sometimes ago, a rocket launcher was shot at us from Gyel, then grenades were also thrown at us, there have also been persistent shootings in the community and we don’t know why they are attacking us. We, the Bukuru Elders Council, are calling on the Federal, state and local governments to intervene. We are also using this opportunity to call on the community leaders in Gyel to come forward for dialogue so that we know why they keep attacking us.”

Our correspondent gathered that two of the victims of the attack, Lawal Muhammad and Bashir Iliyasu, were being hospitalised in Jos while the third victim had been discharged.

The spokesman for the Special Task Force (STF), Capt. Ikedichi Iweha, who confirmed the incident, said the situation was brought under control by operatives of the task force.
