The Adamawa State police Command has debunked media reports that vigilance groups in Madagali local government area killed over 70 members of Boko Haram sect.

It also said reports that seven captured members were handed over to the police authorities were untrue.

The spokesman of the command, Abubakar Othman told LEADERSHIP that the killings did not occur in Adamawa State.

According to him, “When I heard people talking about the killing of many Boko Haram members in Adamawa, I was surprised because by virtue of my work, I ought to be among the people who should be the first to know about the happening,” he said.

Othman said he immediately sprung into action and through investigation where he gathered that the event did not actually happen in Adamawa State but in Borno State.

“Our investigation reveals that nothing happened in Adamawa but in Borno State. However, the root of the event started in Adamawa when a person suspected to be a member came to Madagali market to purchase large stock of food.

“The people, having marked him as a suspect, began to trail his movement up to Borno State where he came from and haven established their base, they launched the attack on them,” Othman added.
